Policies and procedures
As your sports club grows and develops its range of activities, you will probably find it necessary to establish some club policies that set out in more detail how the club and its members should operate. Typically, these policies might cover such things as:
Membership policy - membership criteria and membership forms, including additional provisions for junior members, |
Equal opportunity policy - an equity statement and its implementation through an equal opportunities policy, |
Code of conduct for fair play - the standards of conduct expected of members or officials, |
Child protection - arrangements for protecting children, young people, or vulnerable adults from any form of abuse, |
Health & safety - covering duty of care, risk assessment, insurance, first aid, emergency procedures, etc., |
Club development policies - covering club development and planning, |
Ethics in sport - all aspects of fair and equitable conduct in both the management and running of the sport... |
Running club summary
Here are the most important principles in running the bocce club:
Draw up a club register of members' and volunteers' names, addresses, ages, and occupations. |
Plan for the future. Keep records from the outset - they provide a valuable source of historical data. |
Plan your budgets for the year. |
Keep your members informed by a club newsletter. Secure a permanent Post Office Box. |
Hold regular, interesting meetings in which DECISIONS ARE MADE. Good meetings keep clubs alive. |
Spread the workload. Members will be more committed if their talents are used. |
Design a club insignia and/or club uniform. |
Involve families as much as possible and develop a social side to the club. |
Think about forming junior, men's, women's, mixed and veteran teams, and entering them into competitions. |
Take time to plan everything in detail in conjunction with your membership. |

Where to get advice and help
With the information in this guide, you can make a go of a Bocce Sports Club and help further sport in your area. The "Running of a Bocce Sports Club - Handy Hints" in the previous section can help your club to run more efficiently.
The sports development boards (and/or similar bodies/agencies in your community/city) are throwing their considerable weight behind the Community Sports Club Development Scheme. Its expert staff is ready and willing to offer technical advice gleaned from studying the operations of sports clubs throughout the world.
To help your club thrive, it is advisable to keep your local, regional, state, and National Bocce Association and the sports development board (and/or similar body/agency in your community/city) informed of your activities.
Of course, the City Bocce Club documents, guides, publications and City Bocce Project presented at this website will help you, too.
