One has only to look at the history of the region to see what an important part sports play in the lives of the people fortunate enough to live here. This is where the Hikers, one of the oldest mountaineering clubs in the United States, was founded in 1906. It still has a very active and vibrant membership. This is where Peddie Kramer founded its chain nearly 80 years ago and where EREI started more than 50 years ago.

Every major sport played nearly everywhere in the world has a professional team in City - football, baseball, soccer, hockey, and men’s and women’s basketball. Consider also the fact that each time one of these teams has attempted to leave the area, significant efforts on the part of many, many people ensured it would stay.

Couple this sports mindedness and active lifestyle outlook with an ever-increasing population, as well as an increasingly culturally diverse population, and you have a very compelling reason for bringing one of the most exciting sports in the world to the region – BOCCE!

The Northwest Sound region is known internationally as a pace-setting place to be and the implementation of this proposal will enable the area to establish itself as the bocce metropolis of the United States.
